Peace in Jnub

Sunday, August 19, 2012

This is my last day in Lebanon for the current trip. I still have a lot to write about all the beauties and magnificence I observed here, particularly the grandeur and "peace" of Jnub. It may feel ironic, but the truth is Jnub is where I felt "peace" the most, not just more than any part of Lebanon, but more than many other places on the planet.
Yaroun, a small village deep in the south of Lebanon, is the closest we were to the borders of the Occupied Palestine. The village is home to mostly American, Australian or Canadian citizens who spend their summer vacations in their luxurious huge houses there. Nonetheless women appear in hijab, and the people have mainly remained on their traditions when it comes to dressing, marriage, celebrations, funerals and like everywhere in the world -gossips! We were impressed by the hospitality of the two families we met on Eid. They were very welcoming and warm and like almost everyone in the Jnub, they still knew "Khosh- Aamadid" is the Farsi word for "welcome!"; the word they had learned on Ahmadinejad's visit to the country. Farewell to this holy land is hard to bid. But you are never meant to stay at one place for ever, you need to move on with your goals, motives and ....life.
